Geography and Economy
Southern Colonies
The southern colonies had fertile soil used to grow cash crops. Their economy was mainlly dependent on agriculture. Some f the various cash crops grown were rice, cotton, tobacco, and indigo. The weather conditions and the land were both perfect for farming. The economy also depended on slaves. The slaves were used for manual labor on large plantations which promoted the area of agriculture even more.
Middle Colonies
The middle colonies were known for their soil that was suitable for small farms to grow ceertain grains such as wheat and rye. Some of the middle colonies also depended on slaves. They used the slaves in the same manner as they did in the South. The middle Colonies were known as, "The Breadbasket Colonies."
New England Colonies
The New England colonies had poor soil lacking neccesary nutrients. Instead, these colonies were a bit more industrialized. They used valuable resources found in the forests of their very own land such as lumber and many other important rsources. They also relied on the ocean for whales and fish. The also specialized in the area of ship building.
